COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland (13-12) scored three runs in the home half of the first and then pulled away for a 9-0 decision over Colgate (8-16) in the Raiders' opening game of spring break week on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colgate's best chance came in the top of the fourth when Jillian Herbst led off with a single up the middle. She advanced to third after a walk and wild pitch set the Raiders in business with two runners in scoring position, but Colgate couldn't cash in.
- Maryland scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
- The home team added four runs in the third to lead 7-0, and then a two-run homer from Sam Bean in the bottom of the fourth gave the Terrapins a 9-0 advantage.
- Mia Cascio reached base twice via walk. Mackenzie Lewis made a sparkling play in left field in the bottom of the third, launching a one-hopper to home plate that beat the runner.
