Colgate Drops Match to American

The Raiders fall in four sets and take second conference loss of the season

HAMILTON — After a battle to take set one, Colgate fell to American in a four-set match at Cotterell Court on Saturday evening.

The Raiders' defense recorded 13 team blocks, led by first-year Jordyn Moore, but American was able to earn points in other areas to take the 3–1 conference win.

COACH BAKER'S COMMENTS
"Give credit to American, they outplayed us in all areas. We didn't handle the moment as we all wanted to. I need to do a better job getting them ready. We will get back at it this week.  There is still a lot of volleyball left."

Set 1 | Colgate 25, American 23
Colgate opened the first set with a point off an Eagle miscue. The Raiders maintained momentum with a series of kills from Maddie Rudolph and Milan Bayless to a 7–3 advantage. Despite a strong response from American, which tied the score at 10–10, Bayless consistently broke through their defense.

Colgate faced another challenge as the Eagles briefly took a 17–14 lead. However, Rachael Martinez's service aces ignited a late rally, allowing the Raiders to regain control. In a tense finish, Carlie Rzeszotarski's kill and a final block by Jordyn Moore and Rudolph secured the set for Colgate to close it, 25–23.

Set 2 | American 25, Colgate 20
Colgate surged early in the second set, with a kill from Moore off a set by Ava Schabes setting the tone as the Raiders opened with a 2–0 lead. American responded with a series of points, eventually overtaking Colgate to lead 9–5.

The Raiders fought back with key contributions as Bayless and Rudolph helped narrow the gap to 22–18. However, American capitalized on several opportunities to close the set, 25–20.

Set 3 | American 25, Colgate 21
Colgate began the third set facing an early deficit, but Rudolph delivered a key kill to narrow the gap to 2–1. Despite multiple attack errors, the Raiders rallied behind a kill from Lal Akin and a service ace from Deren Cukur, cutting American's lead to 8–4.

Moore and Akin combined for crucial blocks, while Bayless and Schabes added timely kills to keep the Raiders within reach at 19–15. In the closing moments, Rzeszotarski and Bayless added late points, but Colgate ultimately fell short, with the set ending 25–21 in favor of the Eagles.

Set 4 | American 25, Colgate 18
In the fourth set, Moore's early kill off a set from Cukur, momentarily leveled the score at 1–1, but the Eagles quickly pulled ahead. The Raiders struggled against effective serves and blocks by American that widened the gap, 12–5.
