HAMILTON – Colgate football had a bittersweet Homecoming falling 35-10 to Holy Cross.
Holy Cross capitalized on two special teams' blunders that resulted in Crusader touchdowns.
Both defenses were off to the races in the first quarter. Every possession in the first quarter was punted away, except a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Holy Cross.
Colgate opened its first possession of the second half with Michael Brescia throwing a 41-yard pass to Garrett Oakey. The Raiders capitalized off the play with a 31-yard field goal from Spencer Biscoe.
Brescia threw a 25-yard pass to Max Hurleman to start the third possession of the second quarter. Brescia completed the play scoring a 4-yard rushing touchdown to give Colgate its first lead of the game.
A penalty on Colgate's special teams unit caused Holy Cross to start their last possession of the first half on the Colgate 20-yard line. The Crusaders capitalized off the Raiders' blunder to score a 22-yard passing touchdown and take their lead back.
Holy Cross opened the third quarter with an interception at the Colgate 31-yard line. The Crusaders scored a 29-yard passing touchdown from the interception, bumping their lead to 11 points.
Holy Cross would tally another touchdown to extend their lead to 18 points. Unfortunately for the home team, the Crusaders' defense would keep going hard, holding Colgate scoreless in the third and fourth quarters.
A fumble by Colgate's special teams would result in Holy Cross' fourth touchdown of the game, and an interception accounted for their fifth and final touchdown.

"Obviously, a lot of credit goes to Holy Cross. They're having a great year so far and made some good plays today. There was a lot of back and forth in today's game. There was a huge swing of momentum that went their way. Our guys fight hard. I told them after the game that we have to clean stuff up. The mistakes we make are fixable. We have to keep chipping away at that stuff. The team is bought in, and we're going to fight. There's no giving up. This is a tough stretch we're in, but there are still a lot of meaningful games down the road that could impact Patriot League play."
