Raiders Fall at Loyola, 87-77

Hot-Shooting Afternoon Not Enough as Loyola’s Betz-White Scores 37

BALTIMORE – Colgate posted its best shooting performance of the season but it went for naught in an 87-77 setback to Loyola here Sunday.

Greyhounds guard Bri Betz-White scored 37 points in 39 minutes, blitzing her previous career-high of 23. She helped Loyola to its highest point total since 2007.

Colgate in desperation mode missed its final five shots of the game, yet still finished at 56.4 percent from the floor. That easily topped the season highs of 51.2 percent against Lafayette and the 50.9 percent against Towson in a pair of impressive victories.

But second-chance points in this game were decisive. The Greyhounds gathered 15 offensive rebounds and converted them into a 24-5 scoring edge in second-chance points.

Loyola owned the boards 35-22, limiting the Raiders to their lowest figure of the season.

Kateri Stone scored 19 points to lead Colgate. Katie Curtis added 16 and Rachel Thompson 10. Curtis also was the team's rebounding (7) and assist (6) leader.

From the Source
• Colgate head coach Bill Cleary: (On the game) "Offensively, we did a great job. We got any shot we wanted and were able to finish along with it. The disappointing part was the defensive end, and it's a shame. The first five or six minutes of the game, we followed the scout and did what we wanted to do.

"And then we got undisciplined. That's my fault; I've got to do a better job of letting our players know what we want and what we need. We'll get better. There's no question that they believe in what we are doing, particularly on the offensive end. We've got to be better on that defensive end."
