NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Who says
Jake Melville can't throw.
The fleet-footed Colgate quarterback took to the airways here Saturday and passed for a school-record five TDs as the No. 23 Raiders whipped Yale 55-13.
Colgate scored its most points against the Bulldogs in a series dating to 1909, and Saturday's 42-point win was the largest Raider margin of victory since a 46-3 triumph at Fordham in 2006.
Melville finished 22-of-32 for 315 yards and five touchdowns against just one interception. The Raider offense had a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard rusher (
James Holland 110) and a 100-yard receiver (
John Maddaluna III 147) in the same game for the first time since 2012.
And defense? Colgate held Yale to 12 rushing yards, intercepted four passes and sacked Bulldog quarterbacks five times for a combined minus-36 yards.

• Colgate 55, Yale 13
Won-Lost Records

•
Nick Diaco and
Nick Martinsen (2 TDs) tallied their first career touchdowns.
• Maddaluna's 147 receiving yards were a career high, capped by a 39-yard TD catch. He added an 8-yard end around to score his first collegiate rushing touchdown.
•
Pat Afriyie had two sacks in the game and now 16 for his career. That's tied for sixth on the all-time Raider chart.
•
Trent Williams in his second career start posted two sacks, another TFL and his first collegiate interception. One sack, on fourth down, set up a Colgate TD on the next play. The pick set up a Raider field goal.
•

Tyler Castillo and
T.J. Holl also had picks.
• Martinsen finished with five catches for 69 yards and his two TDs.

From the Sources
•
Colgate head coach Dan Hunt: (Opening statement) "Obviously, I'm happy with how we played
today. There still were a couple of mistakes in the special teams game that we can fix, but we did a really nice job. We had the interception on the first drive, but our
kids were able to bounce back. And defensively, the success we were having allowed us to be a lot more aggressive on offense."

Colgate quarterback Jake Melville: (On his day) "We had to battle a little bit of adversity but throughout the whole game, the wide receivers played great, the line gave me a ton of time and it was just my job to get them the ball. I can't say enough about the O-line. I was pretty clean the whole game."
