Raiders Finish Strong, Handle Hoyas 38-10

Defense Sets Program Season Mark for Fewest Rushing Yards Allowed

HAMILTON – Colgate completed its climb back to Mount .500 with a convincing 38-10 victory over Georgetown here Saturday.

The Raiders made it four wins in the last five by scoring twice on the ground, twice through the air and once on special teams. T.J. Holl blocked the second Georgetown punt attempt of the day and Adam Bridgeforth scooped it up for a 4-yard TD return.

It was the senior Bridgeforth's first career touchdown.

Also in the opening half, Jake Melville connected on scoring tosses to Owen Rockett and John Maddaluna III as Colgate built a 21-3 advantage. Keyon Washington and Alex Mathews added second-half TD runs of 15 and 21 yards, respectively.

Jonah Bowman converted a 32-yard field goal and finished his career 31-of-41. Bowman's 75.6 percent field goal clip breaks the all-time Raiders record for field goal percentage, previously held by Mike Powers at 63.6 percent (35-of-55).

25755Colgate's defense held Georgetown to 35 rushing yards and set a program record for fewest yards allowed with 694. The 69.4 per-game figure also is a program record, beating out the 1999 Colgate defensive total of 772 rushing yards allowed in 11 games (70.2 per game).

Bottom Line

• Georgetown closed the half with a Henry Darmstadter field goal from 43 yards.
• Colgate took the opening possession of the third quarter and marched 75 yards in eight plays, with Washington capping on a nifty 15-yard run.

From the Sources
• Colgate head coach Dan Hunt: (On the game) "We challenged the team to play that complete game. We're playing pretty well of late, but in each game we have a little lull where we let a team back into it or we don't get off to a good start. So we said this was our last chance to play a full 60 minutes, and we did that."

• Colgate placekicker Jonah Bowman: (On breaking the record) "I've been blessed with a great line that has protected me and I've always had great holders. It has shown through the operation and we've been able to convert field goals year after year. It showed we were a dependable unit and we've done a lot to change the kicking culture here."

25758• Colgate defensive end Brett Field: (On closing strong) "The seniors really wanted to show the younger kids how it's done and get some momentum going into next year. It was great to go out with a win."

• Colgate wide receiver John Maddaluna III: (On his late send-off) "It was a nice feeling. These four years went by pretty quickly but I wouldn't have done it with any other senior class. It was nice to go off with Melville – it was a great feeling."

• Colgate quarterback Jake Melville: (On his late send-off) "It was awesome, a real special feeling. I'm going to miss this place; I'm going to miss football a lot. It started to hit me during the game but I've accepted it. I'm going to miss it."
