HAMILTON --
Colgate played toe-to-toe with another of the Patriot League's heavyweight teams before falling 66-58 to American here Saturday afternoon.

Randyll Butler led the Raider charge with her first double-double of the season and third for her career. She scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, while Josie Stockill matched her collegiate best with 18 points.

American (9-6) vaulted to 4-0 and alone atop the Patriot League standings. Colgate is now 1-3, with all three losses to teams inside the top-four.

The Raiders led this one by as many as seven points late in the first half before American finished the period on an 8-0 run, punctuated by Jen Dumiak's bank-shot at the buzzer from half-court. That gave the Eagles a 29-28 halftime lead.

The second half was more back-and-forth – there were seven ties and nine lead changes over the 40 minutes – before American was able to pull away at the end.

Dumiak led all scorers with 20 points and dished out six assists.

Colgate (2-13) is at Boston University this Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Bottom Line

Facts & Figures
• This was a three-point game at 54-51 American with four minutes left to play.
• But Arron Zimmerman scored five straight points, Jordan Light hit a trey and Michelle Holmes added a layup for a 64-54 Eagles lead with 1:47 showing.
• There were seven ties and nine lead changes.
• Colgate shot 34.0 percent from the field on 18-of-53, while American finished at 41.5 percent on 22-of-53.
• The Raiders were 4-of-10 from 3-point distance and a season-best 18-of-21 at the line.
• American was 7-of-22 from downtown and 15-of-20 at the line.
• Colgate scoring went like this: Josie Stockill 18, Missy Repoli 11, Randyll Butler 10, Paige Kriftcher 10, Carole Harris five, Mariah Jones two and Steph Schultz two.
• American was led in scoring by 20 points from Jen Dumiak, 16 from Michelle Holmes and 14 from Arron Zimmerman. Holmes had nine rebounds and Dumiak six assists.
• This was a well-played game, with the Raiders committing just 10 turnovers and American nine. Those figures just missed being season-bests for both teams (Colgate had eight vs. Binghamton).

Double-Time for Butler
• Four times this season, Butler had posted nine rebounds in a game.
• In three of those contests, she easily scored in double-figures – so she kept missing her third career double-double by just one carom.
• But Saturday she left no doubt, at least in the rebounding column.
• Her 13 rebounds topped her previous career-high of 11 set during her famous buzzer-beater game at Loyola. That was one of two double-doubles she posted last season.
18349
Kriftcher scored in double-figures for the fourth straight game.

• Career double-double No. 3 came when she scored a layup Saturday just before the final horn, giving her 10 points to go with the 13 boards.

Perfect Shooting
• Stockill finished 10-of-10 at the line, posting career highs for both made and attempted free throws. She's up to 80.3 percent for the season on 61-of-76.
• Stockill made 75 percent (45-of-60) her freshman season and 71.8 percent (51-of-71) last year.
• Her 18 points marked the third time in the last six games the junior forward reached her career scoring high.
• Kriftcher was 2-of-2 from 3-point distance and is now a blistering 9-of-10 from beyond the arc in this year's four Patriot League games.
• The junior guard is up to 45.9 percent for the season on 17-of-37. She entered the weekend fifth in the Patriot League in 3-point field goal percentage.
• Kriftcher reached double-figure points for the fourth straight game.
• Repoli posted one of her best shooting games of the season. The senior guard was 3-of-4 overall, including 2-of-2 from long distance, and 3-of-3 at the line for 11 points.
• She leads the Raiders with 23 made 3-pointers and has 138 for her career. Repoli needs just four more to tie for fourth on the all-time Colgate chart.

More Key Info
• Colgate's three conference losses have come at the hands of teams in the top-four of the current Patriot League Standings: American (4-0), Lehigh (3-1) and Bucknell (2-2).

Turning Point
• Colgate had turned a 17-11 deficit on its ear with a 17-4 run that made it 28-21 Raiders with two minutes left in the first half.
• That was Colgate's largest lead of the game.
18350
Repoli was 2-of-2 from 3-point distance and 3-of-3 at the charity stripe.

• But American responded with a crushing 8-0 run to end the half, capped by Dumiak's 3-point bank shot dagger from just inside the half-court stripe.
• Colgate played the Eagles close in the second half, with four lead changes and a 48-48 tie as late as the 7:22 mark, before American pulled away to keep its perfect Patriot League record intact.

From the Sources
• Colgate head coach Nicci Hays Fort: (On the game) "I was really happy with our defensive effort. We knew we had to be really disciplined. We also knew they would exploit us if we had any mistakes, and it was just a couple of times down the stretch where we made a few mistakes and they hit some shots.
"I'm very proud of our effort; our defense has been pretty good. We've been focused on what we need to do to compete, and I'm really proud of the team."
(On Butler's 13 boards) "Randyll's a great rebounder. She has goals for rebounding, we have goals for her for rebounding, and I recruited her to rebound. She's really taking pride in that right now."
(On Stockill's 18 points) "We really wanted to go at them inside, and Josie did a good job of attacking catches and attacking the glass. That's what we needed her to do and she was able to get herself to the free-throw line."
(On Boston U.) "They're scrappy, they've got a new coach and she's got them playing differently. They are playing right with teams, just like every team in our league is a bounce or two away from being at the top.
"We're going to have to play well again and stay focused on our scouting report's specific goals.
(On hosting Girl Scout Day) "It's so important for a variety of reasons. It's important for our student-athletes to give back, and it's important for them to see themselves as role models.
""This is Girl Scout Day, and over half of our team members were Girl Scouts. It's important for these young kids to see that some of these student-athletes were sitting in their seats maybe 10 years ago and now they're playing Division I basketball at a prestigious school like Colgate University.
"It's big, and we talk all the time about giving back. We're fortunate to be at a place like Colgate and be able to play Division I college basketball. Not every kid or every person is as fortunate.
"I just love our kids. We had a tough game today, and they're out here having fun with these kids."

The Raiders hosted Girl Scout Day on Saturday.

• Colgate junior guard Randyll Butler: (On American) "American, we know, is good. They are one of the top teams in our league. It was just the little things we didn't do or we could have come out on top. But they played a good game. We've just got to play a full 40 next time."
(On battling the top teams) "We are in a good spot. This next game, we either can get a win or take a step back, and we're just going to try to get a win and keep moving forward."

Gate Grab Bag
• Attendance at Cotterell Court was another season-high, this time with 536 on hand.
• Colgate Women's Basketball and Colgate Athletics hosted Girl Scout Day, and the Raiders held a postgame clinic on the floor.

Up Next
• Colgate is back on the road Wednesday at Boston University. The Terriers are 3-12 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League after Saturday's 67-60 loss at Lafayette.
• The Raiders and Terriers split the series last year in BU's first season in the Patriot League, with both teams winning at home.
