HAMILTON – Lauryn Kobiela doubled her previous career high in points – and doubled her season total to date – but that didn't prevent Harvard from escaping with a 91-76 decision.

Kobiela scored 27 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the floor. She was 4-of-4 from 3-point distance and added three free throws to finish 14 points above her previous collegiate high of 13. Entering Saturday, Kobiela had scored exactly 27 points total in Colgate's first three games.

"I've been trying to attack more and looking to score more," said Kobiela, whose previous career high came last year against Bucknell. "When shots don't fall I look to find teammates, but today they were falling so I kept attacking."

The Charlotte, N.C., product is now tied with Mariah Jones for team scoring honors at 13.5 per game.

"Obviously, we'd love to have 27 from Lauryn any night, but it's not what we expect," Colgate head coach Nicci Hays Fort said of her assist specialist. "If we can just get her to look to attack and always take her open shots, then she's going to have a really good senior year."

Shooting Touch Too Much
The Raiders were hanging with Harvard into the second media timeout of the opening half, trailing 21-17 with 11:12 showing. But the Crimson caught fire over the next 3:16, outscoring Colgate 15-6 thanks to four made 3-pointers during that sizzling stretch.

"Harvard's really good, so we had to try to pick who not to guard," Hays Fort said. "We tried to do that in the first half and we had great help, but then they were able to skip it and they made nine threes.

"We take pride in guarding the 3-point line and tonight that just got away from us a little bit."

Colgate entered the game second in the Patriot League in 3-point field goal defense, allowing a 27.9-percent success rate. But Harvard connected on 9-of-14 from long range in the first half and 12-of-22 for the game.

Harvard made 19-of-29 overall (65.5 percent) from the field in the first half and led 49-36 at intermission.

"It's going to be hard to win games when you let someone shoot 65 percent in either half," Hays Fort said.

Even though the Crimson cooled down to 51.6 percent by game's end, it still was the best shooting night against the Raiders this season.

Harvard scored the first five points of the second half and Colgate drew no closer than the halftime margin until Jones converted a 3-point play with just 1:49 to play that made it 84-72. The Crimson maintained their double-digit advantage and improved to 5-1 this season.

With the win, Harvard head coach Kathy Delaney-Smith secured her 500th career coaching victory.

Stockill Scoring Again
Carole Harris
Colgate's Josie Stockill topped her own career high with 15 points. After a slow start to her sophomore campaign that saw the New Zealander score just two points in the first two games, Stockill (pictured middle right) has returned to her Patriot League All-Rookie pace by posting consecutive double-figure games.

She was 5-of-7 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line.

Carole Harris (pictured right) added 14 points on the heels of last weekend's 25-point outburst, while Jones tossed in nine points, six boards and four assists. Harris also was the team's leading rebounder with eight.

The Raiders finished at 46.7 percent from the field (31-of-67), but just 5-of-19 from long range. Colgate made nine of 13 free throw attempts to Harvard's 15-of-19. Rebounds went Colgate's way by a 38-33 edge, while the home squad committed 22 turnovers to the Crimson's 17.

The Raiders, now 1-3, have a quick turnaround with a Monday night game at New Hampshire (2-2). Start time from Durham is 7 o'clock.
