WEST POINT, N.Y. (2/15/12) – The Colgate women's basketball team dropped a Patriot League contest to Army 62-47 Wednesday night at Christl Arena.
Missy Repoli led the Raiders with 17 points while
Catherine Lewis added nine and
Kelly Korkowski pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The two squads exchanged baskets to start the game and were tied at seven apiece with 17:03 left in the first half. The Black Knights picked up the intensity and went on a 14-5 run to get some space from the Raiders as Army held a 21-12 lead midway through the half. Neither team wanted to put the ball in the basket it seemed like until
Mariah Jones hit one from downtown to cut the deficit to six with 8:39 remaining. Once again it seemed as if neither team wanted to score as both missed open missed open shots to go scoreless for the next five minutes of action. Repoli ended the drought with a huge three-pointer and then followed with a jumper to cut the lead to 21-20 with 2:47 left. However, Army wouldn't let the Raiders take the lead, as it ended the half with a 4-0 run to take a 25-20 lead into the locker room.
The Black Knights came out the locker room with a 17-7 run to build a 15 point lead 42-27 with 11:38 remaining. Colgate attempted several times to cut into the Black Knights lead, but every attempt fell short as Army would regroup and create space. With 3:00 remaining the Raiders had cut the lead to seven thanks to a three from Lewis, but Army kept calm and made key plays down the stretch to protect its home floor with a 62-47 victory.
Colgate (6-20, 3-8) is second in the Patriot League in free throw percentage, but shot 5-13 (38.5%) from the charity stripe while Army made 15-16 (93.8%) from the line. Army also dominated the paint outscoring Colgate 22-12.
Colgate will return home on Saturday, Feb 18 to host Navy on “Senior Day.” Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.
