Missy Repoli led the Raiders with 17 points as the Colgate women's basketball team avenged a early-season double overtime loss to Lehigh with its third Patriot League victory 77-71 Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court. Both teams wore pink during the game as part of the WBCA "Play 4Kay" initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer.
All five starters scored in double-figures for the first time this season as
Tricia Oakes added 14 points and eight rebounds while
Candice Green dropped in 13 points and a game-high five assists.
Jhazmine Lynch added 12 points to go along with five rebounds, while
Kelly Korkowski recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Alexa Williams gave Lehigh (13-11, 6-4) the first points of the game, and Oakes quickly responded with a lay-up of her own to tie the game a two apiece. The Mountain Hawks then went on a 6-0 run to take an 8-2 lead with 17:13 left. But Colgate responded with a 15-2 to run to take a 17-10 lead with 13:11 remaining and never looked back. The Raiders then finished the half with a 21-18 run to take a 38-28 advantage into the locker room. In the first half Repoli posted 13 points including three from long range while Green added 11 points of her own along with three from downtown.
Mariah Jones provided Colgate with a spark off the bench as she made huge plays to begin the second half as the Raiders opened with a 12-8 run to build a 50-36 lead with 15:02 remaining. Lehigh began to find some rhythm midway through the second half as the Mountain Hawks used a 19-13 run to cut the lead to single digits with 7:46 left in the game. Lehigh would continue to fight back down the stretch closing the game on a 16-11 run, but it wasn't enough as Colgate remained calm and hit key baskets to take the victory 77-71.
Colgate (6-19, 3-7) outrebounded Lehigh 40-30 and also held the Mountain Hawks to 42 percent shooting from the field while it shot 44 percent overall, including 46 percent from downtown. Colgate starters combined for 68 points, while getting nine from the bench.
Colgate will head to West Point to face Army on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.
