EASTON, PA. (2/9/11)
– The Colgate women's basketball team experienced a 65-42 setback on Wednesday night when it fell to Patriot League opponent, Lafayette, on the road. Senior Krista Moser led the Raiders in scoring with 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds, while freshman Lauryn Kobiela was second on the team with seven points in the game.

Lafayette got on the scoreboard early, going on a 4-0 run to take the lead in the first few minutes of the game. Colgate (7-16, 2-7 PL) finally got on the board with a jumper at the 16:01 mark to put the score at 4-2. The Leopards then answered back with another 4-0 run and, by the 14:34 mark, had improved its lead to 8-2. The teams continued to trade baskets but as the clock hit the 10-minute mark, Lafayette had extended its lead to 12 points. The Raiders picked up their pace in an attempt to reduce the scoring margin, however, a series of forced turnovers and some strong plays by the Leopards' defense, allowed them to take a 25-12 advantage with just six minutes left in the half. The teams continued to battle it out on the court once again, but a couple of three-pointers in the final minutes of the half had Lafayette holding the 44-28 lead at half time.

The Leopards came out to an explosive start, opening scoring once again with a 9-0 run to take the 53-28 lead at the 16:31 mark. The Raiders final found their first point with a free throw at the 17:14 mark but as the half progressed, Lafayette extended its scoring margin to as much as 28 points at one point. Midway through the half the Leopards then hit a dry spell, allowing Colgate to go on a 8-0 run and reduce the scoring margin to 20 points and put the score at 58-38 with just 9:17 left in the game. But despite the Raiders' best efforts, they could not close the gap with Lafayette reviving its scoring momentum in the closing minutes to win the game 65-42.

“I give credit to Lafayette,” stated head coach Pamela Bass. “They took us out of our game plan on both ends of the floor. Once we made adjustments, we simply couldn't finish.”

Colgate had a 26.4 field goal percentage, going 11-28 in the first half and 3-25 in the second. The Leopards had 45.3 field goal percentage in the game.

The Raiders will resume play this weekend when they host American on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. in Cotterell Court. The game will be part of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.
