Women’s Hoops Travels to Lafayette on Wednesday

Colgate will look to improve on its 2-6 league record against Lafayette

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/8/11) – The Colgate women's basketball team will play its third consecutive Patriot League game on the road when it travels to Lafayette for a matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in Easton, Pa.

Colgate (7-15, 2-6 PL) is coming off a tough 55-54 loss to Army on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders were able to cut down a lead that was once 17 points in the first half to just one point in the final seconds of the game, but could not secure the win. Sophomore Jhazmine Lynch led the team in scoring with a game-high 14 points and six rebounds while senior Tayler Wejnert had 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAY
Colgate is currently sitting in seventh place in the league standings above Lafayette, which also has a 2-6 league record. The team has wins over Navy and Lafayette, and has suffered setbacks to Army twice, American, Lehigh, Bucknell and Holy Cross. Navy sits at the top of the standings with a 7-1 record and is followed by Army and American who both have a 5-3 record.

COURT LEADERS
Lynch leads the team in scoring with 12.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She is also second in the league in steals with an average of 2.4 per game. Lynch is followed by Wejnert who is averaging 12.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while senior Krista Moser who averages 6.6 points per game, continues to lead the team in rebounds with a 6.5 average.

TEAM STATS
The Raiders lead the league in three-point field goal percentage (.355) and defensive rebounds (27.3 rebounds per game), and are second in scoring offense (61.2 points per game) and rebounding offense (39.5 rebounds per game).

THE SERIES
Lafayette leads the all-time series with the Raiders, owning a 29-26 record since the teams first met in the 1976-77 season. Colgate has an 11-16 away record against the Leopards, winning the last two road games in Easton, Pa. in 2009 and 2010. The Raiders won the last meeting earlier this season 64-60 on Jan. 12 in Hamilton, N.Y.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
The Leopards (9-14, 2-6 PL) are coming off an 83-46 loss to Holy Cross last week. The team, which is currently sitting in last place in the league standings, has wins over Lehigh and Army, and has losses to Holy Cross twice, Colgate, Navy, Bucknell and American.

Picked to finish tied at sixth with Colgate in the league's preseason poll, Lafayette is led by seniors LaKeisha Wright and Lauren Jackson. Wright leads the team in scoring with 12.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while Jackson, who leads the league in free-throw percentage (.836), is second with 7.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Freshman Danielle Fiacco, who averages 6.6 points per game, leads the team in rebounding with an average of eight per game. She also leads the league in blocked shots with 3.4 per game.

PRESEASON POLL
The Raiders were picked to finish tied at sixth with Lafayette in the Patriot League Preseason Poll that was released on Oct. 28. Last season's runner-up, American, was picked to finish first with a total of 93 points and nine first-place votes, which was two points over defending champions, Lehigh, who had 91 points and seven first-place votes. Following the Eagles and Mountain Hawks are Navy (70), Army (59), Holy Cross (42), Colgate (40), Lafayette (40) and Bucknell (31).
