Raiders Travel to Nation’s Capital on Saturday

– The Colgate women's basketball team will hit the road once again, when it travels to Washington, D.C. for a matchup against Patriot League opponent, American, on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. This will be the Raiders' first league game on the road.

Colgate (6-10, 1-1 PL) is coming off a 60-64 win over Lafayette on Wednesday night on Cotterell Court, which gave them their first league win of the season. Junior Tricia Oakes led the team in scoring with 15 points while senior Krista Moser had 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior Kelly Korkowski led the team on the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds.

WHO'S HOT?
Korkowski had a career high game against Lafayette. She posted a team-best and career-high 11 rebounds and recorded two steals. The junior has led the team in rebounding in four of the last five games.

COURT LEADERS
Sophomore Jhazmine Lynch continues to lead the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game and in steals with an average of 2.9, which also has her placed at first in the league. She is followed by senior Tayler Wejnert who is averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while Moser continues to lead the team in rebounds with a 7.3 average.

TEAM STATS

The Raiders lead the league in defensive rebounds with 27.6 rebounds per game. The team is also second in the league in scoring offense (62.6 points per game), field goal percentage (.396) and rebounding offense (39.9 per game).

THE SERIES

American leads the all-time series, owning a 17-6 record against the Raiders. The teams first met in the 2001-02 season in Hamilton, N.Y. Since then the Eagles have won seven of the nine meetings they have had in Washington, D.C., giving Colgate a 2-7 away record against the Eagles. The Raiders' last win was a 66-53 victory at home in the 2007 and their last road win was in 2006. American won the last meeting between the two teams 82-47 on its home court.

SCOUTING AMERICAN
The Eagles (12-4, 2-0 PL) are coming off a 60-55 win over Bucknell on Wednesday to improve their league record to 2-0. The team, which was picked to finish first in the preseason poll, secured its first conference win against Lehigh on Jan. 8. American's only four losses were to High Point, Maryland, Sam Houston St. and Texas Tech.

The Eagles are led by senior Liz Leer and sophomore Lisa Strack. Leer leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game. She is followed by Strack who is averaging 11.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

PRESEASON POLL
The Raiders were picked to finish tied at sixth with Lafayette in the Patriot League Preseason Poll that was released on Oct. 28. Last season's runner-up, American, was picked to finish first with a total of 93 points and nine first-place votes, which was two points over defending champions, Lehigh, who had 91 points and seven first-place votes. Following the Eagles and Mountain Hawks are Navy (70), Army (59), Holy Cross (42), Colgate (40), Lafayette (40) and Bucknell (31). American's Michelle Kirk was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year.

1,000-POINT CLUB

Senior Sami Kozlowski, who has started every game in her collegiate career, is now just 40 points short of reaching the 1,000 career-point mark. Ending the 2009-10 season as the Raiders' second leading scorer, she has already accumulated 122 points this season.

Head coach Pamela Bass has made a deal with her team that is bound to have her in the best shape of her life. For every charge her team takes during a game, she will do one push-up on the court immediately after the foul is called.
