HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/6/10)
— Colgate junior running back Nate Eachus (Drums, Pa.) ran for 212 yards and two touchdowns, while the Raiders defense recorded four interceptions on Saturday to beat Lafayette 24-14 at Andy Kerr Stadium.

Eachus recorded his third 200-yard game of the season off 32 carries, while the Raiders defense recorded four interceptions for the first time since 1996. Senior quarterback Greg Sullivan (Monroe, N.Y.) started and completed 11-of-18 passes for 127 yards and ran for 76 more in his final home game.

Lafayette (2-7, 1-2) scored first off a one yard run by Alan Elder to cap a 3-play, 19-yard drive to take an early 7-0 through the first quarter.

Colgate (5-4, 2-2) would get on the board early in the second quarter off a 26-yard field goal by sophomore Evan Colborne (Tampa, Fla.). The Raiders would then add a pair of touchdowns to build a 17-7 halftime lead.

The first touchdown came midway through the second quarter when defensive end Lamont Sonds (Lilburn, Ga.) returned an interception three yards for the score. Lafayette had just gained possession on its own 8-yard line after recovering a Colgate fumble. On 3rd-and-7 quarterback Marc Quilling dropped back to setup a screen play, but defensive end Zach Smith (Thorafare, N.J.) was able to bring enough pressure to tip the pass which fell into the hands of Sonds. Sonds then walked in from three yards out to give Colgate a 10-7 lead.

Sophomore defensive back Demitri Diamond (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) ended the Leopards next drive with an interecpetion on the Raiders 32-yard line and returned it 19 yards to setup a quick 4-play, 49-yard scoring drive capped off by a 34-yard run from Eachus to build the 17-7 halftime lead.

Eachus found the end zone again to begin the third quarter on a nine-yard run to give Colgate a 24-7 lead. The key play on the scoring drive was a 20-yard pass from Sullivan to senior Gigi Cadet (Riverside, Conn.) to place the Raiders on Lafayette's 11-yard line.

Lafayette would score early in the fourth quarter to trim the Raiders lead to 24-14, and had the opportunity to do some more damage, but senior linebacker Chris DiMassa (Coatesville, Pa.) would pick-off Quilling twice to secure the win. DiMassa's first interception came on a 3rd-and-30 play from the Colgate 38. DiMassa read the play and dropped back to pick-off the pass at the five-yard line. DiMassa's second interception was also made in Colgate territory, but returned 28-yards in the closing minute.

DiMassa led the team with eight tackles and two interceptions, while Smith recorded six tackles and 2.5 sacks.

GAME NOTES: Eachus has rushed for 200 yards or more six times in his career. With the 212 yards Eachus is now fifth in rushing all-time at Colgate with 3,358 yards. Eachus also became the first Raider to gain more then 1,500 yards in a season since Jordan Scott ran for 1,875 in 2007. DiMassa became the first Raider to record two interceptions in a game since Wayne Moten recorded two against Lafayette in 2007. The last time Colgate recorded four interceptions in a game was against Towson in 1996.
