STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (11/23/10) – The Colgate women's basketball team secured its second win of the season when it defeated Wagner 85-72 on Tuesday night in Staten Island, N.Y. Sophomore

Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) contributed 21 points and six rebounds for the Raiders.
The Seahawks started the game with a five-point run in the first two minutes of the half. Colgate (2-3) responded shortly after, equalizing the score at 7-7 minutes later, before taking a two-point lead. The teams then continued to rally back and forth, but it was the Raiders that eventually broke away, extending the scoring margin to as much as 14 points at one point. Wagner tried to come back, making a 15-8 run, but by half time, Colgate had the 36-30 advantage.
The teams continued to exchange baskets in the second half, with the Raiders holding a slight lead. However, with just seven minutes left to play in the game, Wagner found its groove, rallying back and eventually taking the 64-59 lead with just four minutes left, but despite the pressure, Colgate was able to make some key plays, fighting its way back into its first overtime game of the season.
The Raiders carried their momentum into the overtime period, forcing Wagner to make turnovers as they continue to make key baskets. With only five minutes of play in the period, it came down to which team was able to capitalize on its opportunities. In the end, it was the Colgate that was the more productive team, outscoring the Seahawks 16-3 to earn their second win of the season.

Pam Bass. “ I am very proud of the mental toughness our team showed in withstanding Wagner's run and its fight for the victory. Jhazmine and Tayler did a great job and I think the energy and the intensity of the team was what made the difference.”
Colgate will resume play this weekend when it travels to Brooklyn, N.Y. for the Long Island University Turkey Classic. The team will first play Boston University on Friday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. and depending on the results, will play either McNeese State or LIU on Saturday in either the consolation or championship game at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
