BRONX, N.Y. (9/27/08) – Senior tailback Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) carried 43 times for a career-high 272 yards and four touchdowns to become Colgate’s all-time leading rusher with 5,287 yards and led the Raiders to a 31-24 win over Fordham in the Patriot League opener for both teams at Jack Coffey Field.

Scott, who moved into 14th place in FCS career rushing, also broke the FCS record for career carries with 1,153.  The old record of 1,110 was held by Charles Roberts of Sacramento State (1997-00).

Scott also tied the Patriot League record for consecutive 100-yard games with his 17th straight, and tied the PL mark for career 100-yard games with 28.

The game came right down to the final seconds with Scott scoring the game-winning TD with nine seconds left on the clock on a three-yard run.  His TD capped a 72-yard drive in eight plays.

Colgate trailed 24-21 in the fourth quarter after the Rams' Asa Lucas caught a two-yard TD pass from John Skelton with 11:37 remaining.  The Raiders, however, came right back with a career-long 33-yard field goal by Jacob Stein (St. Petersburg, FL) to tie the game with 4:33 left.

Colgate’s defense forced the Rams to punt with 3:07 remaining in the game to set up the game-winning drive.

Fordham jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.  The Rams took the opening drive 82 yards in six plays for a touchdown with Quasand Lewis capping the drive with a two-yard run.  Adam Danko added the extra point.

Later in the first quarter, Fordham had excellent field position after a 56-yard punt return by Isiejah Allen to the Colgate 31.  Seven plays later, Skelton connected on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Namdi Onyeabor with 17 seconds left in the quarter.  Danko’s extra point made it 14-0.

Colgate got rolling in the second quarter behind the running of Scott and quarterback Greg Sullivan (Monroe, NY).  Scott capped off a 69-yard drive with a 15-yard run for Colgate’s first touchdown with 11:07 left, and on the next possession pounded for a two-yard touchdown to tie the contest with 4:08 remaining.  Stein kicked both extra points.

Scott finished with 22 carries for 126 yards and Sullivan had eight carries for 57 yards in the first half.  They combined for 156 yards in the second quarter with Scott rushing for 116.

The Raiders took a 21-14 lead on the first possession of the second half, when Scott scored on a 23-yard run to conclude a 73-yard drive in six plays.  Fordham came back with a 22-yard field goal by Danko with 3:50 left in the third quarter.  Colgate’s defense came up big forcing the Rams to go for the field goal, after they had first-and-goal at the four-yard line.

GAME NOTES: Sullivan had his second straight game over 100 yards, finishing with 107 on 20 carries … junior wide receiver Pat Simonds (Sidney, NY) caught two passes for 31 yards to go over 1,000 receiving yards in his career … Paul Mancuso (Somers, NY) led the Raiders in tackling with nine including a fumble forced, while Vinnie Nicosia (Amsterdam, NY) and Gary Marshall (Atlanta, GA) had fumble recoveries.
