HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/20/08) –
Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) scored 18 points, and
Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA) added 12 points and 13 rebounds for his first career double-double to lead Colgate to a 71-63 Patriot League win over Lehigh Wednesday night at Cotterell Court.
Colgate (13-13, PL 5-7) snapped a six-game losing streak to the Mountain Hawks and moved into a two-way tie with Holy Cross for sixth place in the standings with two league games remaining. Lehigh is 12-13 overall and 5-6 in the league.
With the victory, Colgate head coach Emmett Davis picks up his 133 career win, tying him with William Reed (1919-28) for second place in the school's all-time win list.
Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH) finished with 14 points for the Raiders giving him 999 points for his career. He needs one more to become the 26
th player in school history to reach the 1,000 mark.
Marquis Hall was Lehigh’s leading scorer with 29 points, while Bryan White added nine points and six rebounds.
Colgate shot 48 percent from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point range (7-of-14), while holding Lehigh to 39 percent overall, and 25 percent from behind the arc.
Colgate led throughout most of the first half holding a 31-22 lead with 6:54 remaining. Lehigh staged a rally scoring the next nine points to take a 33-31 lead on Hall’s two free throws with 3:49 left. After each team exchanged a basket, Colgate finished the first half with back-to-back 3-pointers by
Daniel Waddy (Tucson, AZ) and
Tim Pounds (Dudley, NC) for a 39-35 halftime lead.
In the second half, Colgate scored the first eight points for a 47-35 lead. Lehigh didn’t score its first basket of the half until the 15:45 mark. The closest Lehigh would come was four points, 65-61, with 51 seconds remaining, before Colgate iced the contest with six free throws. Roemer made four free throws and
Mike Venezia (Westfield, NJ) added a pair to seal the verdict.
