HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/21/08) – Adam Estoclet scored the game’s lone goal and Jody O’Neill made it stand up as visiting Dartmouth posted a 1-0 victory over Colgate, Friday evening in an ECAC Hockey clash at Starr Rink.
The sophomore banged home a power play goal off a rebound 52 seconds into the third period as Big Green improved to 5-2 overall, 5-1 in league play, while the Raiders fell to 4-4-1, 1-3-1 in the ECAC.
“We did some good things tonight,” said Colgate head coach
Don Vaughan. “I thought defensively, we played well. We got another solid goaltending effort as well. However, we just couldn’t bury the puck.
“I was pleased with the effort,” continued Vaughan. “We had energy and moved well. We had some scoring opportunities that we couldn’t bury. You have to give their goalie credit. There is a very fine line between winning and losing in this league. At the end of the day, we just didn’t finish on our chances.”
Colgate had three golden opportunities in the contest, the first two coming shorthanded.
Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) hit the pipe after breaking in on O’Neill at 11:35 of the first. Nearly eight minutes later,
Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.) was stopped by O’Neill on a second shorthanded breakaway attempt.
Colgate failed to capitalize on a five-minute power play, after Dartmouth’s Peter Boldt was served a major and a game misconduct for hitting from behind at 12:42 of the second period.
Raider netminder
Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) turned aside 22 of 23 shots, while O’Neill saved all 28 he faced.
Dartmouth finished one of eight on the power play, while Colgate was stopped all four times with the man advantage.
