Colgate Football Romps Over Bucknell 52-28 To Guarantee A Winning Season

Nate Eachus has back-to-back 200-yard rushing performances for the Raiders.
 
LEWISBURG, PA. (10/25/08) – Freshman running back Nate Eachus (Drums, PA) carried 36 times for 214 yards and three touchdowns as Colgate romped over Bucknell 52-28 Saturday in a driving rain at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
 
Colgate, 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League assured itself the 12th winning record in 13 seasons under head coach Dick Biddle.  The Raiders are tied for first place in the Patriot League with Lafayette and Holy Cross.  Bucknell falls to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
Eachus, who is replacing Colgate’s injured leading rusher Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD), has carried 43 times for 455 yards and six touchdowns in the last two games.
 
Colgate put together another impressive offensive performance with 522 yards of total offense, while scoring the most points ever in the 57-game history of the series against the Bison.
 
The first half of the contest was a track meet between the two squads with 52 points put on the scoreboard.
 
Colgate opened the scoring on the first possession of the game, when senior placekicker Jacob Stein (St. Petersburg, FL) kicked a career-long 40-yard field goal, capping a 43-yard drive.
 
Taking advantage of a 53-yard kickoff return by A.J. Kizekai, the Bison came right back for a 7-3 lead when Kevin Mullen scored on a 17-yard run right up the middle on the second play from scrimmage.
 
Colgate scored again on its second possession going 54 yards in four plays for a 10-7 lead.  Eachus capped the drive with a nine-yard run and Stein added the first of his seven extra points with 7:10 left in the first quarter.
 
Bucknell struck quickly again with a two-play, 66-yard drive to move in front 14-10.  Alex Lair caught an eight-yard TD pass from Marcello Trigg for the touchdown, after Kizekai carried 58 yards on the first play from scrimmage.
 
In the second quarter, Colgate moved back in front, 17-14, when Jordan McCord (Chicago, IL) scored on an 18-yard run, capping an 80-yard drive in 10 plays.  Then with 7:21 remaining in the first half, Bucknell capitalized on a 59-yard pass from Trigg to Shaun Paternak for a 21-17 lead.
 
The Raiders retook the lead 24-21 with 3:05 left, when Eachus scored on a one-yard run on fourth-and-goal.  Then with 1:19 left, defensive back Wayne Moten (Forestville, MD) came up with an interception for the Raiders, who marched 58 yards in six plays for a 31-21 halftime.  Colgate scored on a 14-pass from Greg Sullivan (Monroe, NY) to Doug Rosnick (Langhorne, PA) with five seconds left.  It was Rosnick’s first career touchdown reception.
 
Colgate started the second half taking advantage of Vinnie Nicosia’s (Amsterdam, NY) fumble recovery at the Bucknell 42.  The Raiders moved to the Bucknell 22 where on fourth-and-one, Eachus carried three yards for the first down.  Five plays later, Sullivan connected with Eric Tupta (University Heights, OH) on a four-yard touchdown pass giving the Raiders a 38-21 lead.
 
In the fourth quarter, Colgate scored on a 12-yard run by Sullivan and a 48-yard bolt up the middle by Eachus for a 52-21 lead with 10:31 remaining.  Bucknell closed out the scoring on Andrew Lair’s one-yard run with 6:08 remaining.
 
Sullivan finished with 12 carries for 79 yards and one touchdown, while Noah Jackson (Vista, CA) had seven carries for 63 yards and McCord 10 carries for 57 yards and one TD.  Sullivan was 7-of-12 passing for 101 yards and two TD’s.  His favorite target was junior Pat Simonds (Sidney, NY), who caught four passes for 72 yards.
 
Nicosia led a defense that limited Bucknell to 296 yards of total offense with five tackles, one quarterback sack, one fumble forced and one fumble recovery.  The Bison had 117 of their 296 yards on two plays.
 
GAME NOTES: Colgate safety David Morgan (Davie, FL) had four tackles including two quarterback sacks and a forced fumble … Uzi Idah (Rolling Hills Estate, CA) had one TFL … Sullivan had thrown 104 straight passes before being intercepted in the first quarter … Moten interception was the sixth of his career … Colgate’s 52 points was the most since the Raiders scored 52 against Yale in 2003 ... Colgate's 421 rushing yards was the tenth highest in school history.
