Jacob Stein (St. Petersburg, FL) kicked a 33-yard field goal with two seconds left to lift Colgate to a 27-24 win over Princeton Saturday in a non-conference game at Andy Kerr Stadium.
Colgate (4-2) extended its winning streak to three straight games, while Princeton (2-2) had a two-game winning streak stopped.
Colgate’s
Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) carried 27 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns. It was Scott’s 18
th straight game over 100 yards and 29
th of his career, both Colgate and Patriot League records. He also became the Patriot League’s all-time leading scorer with 334 points.
This is the third game of the season that Colgate pulled out a victory in the final seconds. They beat Coastal Carolina on the final play of the game, Fordham with nine seconds left, and Princeton with two seconds remaining.
Princeton took a 3-0 on the opening possession of the game on Connor Louden’s career-long 40-yard field goal. Colgate immediately answered on its first possession when on the fourth-and-goal; tight end
Adrien Schriefer (Plainsboro, NJ) grabbed a two-yard touchdown pass from
Greg Sullivan (Monroe, NY) to cap a 66-yard drive in 12 plays. Schriefer has caught three passes this season all for touchdowns.
With three seconds left in the first quarter, Princeton took a 9-7 lead on a 15-yard run by Jordan Culbreath. The extra point was blocked by
Paul Mancuso(Somers, NY).
In the second quarter, Scott scored on a two-yard run to give the Raiders a 14-9 lead. The touchdown made Scott the Patriot League’s all-time leading scorer.
Princeton quarterback Brian Anderson scramble for a 24-yard touchdown run with 17 seconds left in the first half to give the Tigers a 16-14 halftime advantage.
Colgate took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched 85 yards in 13 plays for a 21-16 lead. The Raiders faced fourth-and-one at the Princeton 36, and Scott ran seven yards for a key first down. Four plays later, he tallied on a one-yard run.
With 12:04 left in the game, Stein kicked the first of his two field goals from 24-yards out for a 24-16 lead. Princeton came right back with a 59-yard drive in six plays to tie the game with 9:23 remaining. Billy Mitchell caught a two-yard pass from Anderson for the score, and Anderson hit Will Thanheiser with the two-point conversion pass.
With less than five minutes left, Colgate had fourth-and-two at the Princeton 32, but failed to gain the first down when the hand-off was fumbled. Princeton took over on its own 34-yard line, but was forced to punt when stopped at the 49-yard line.
Colgate took over on its own 20-yard line following the touchback, and marched 64 yards in seven plays for the game-winning FG. In the winning drive, Sullivan connected on 3-of-4 passes for 45 yards and ran once for 16.

Pat Simonds (Sidney, NY) had a big day with 11 catches for 152 yards – both career highs. Sullivan finished 17-of-20 passes for 206 yards and one TD, and carried 17 times for 70 yards.
Colgate had 401 yards of total offense, while Princeton finished with 351.
