HAMILTON, N.Y. (12/1/07) – Junior
Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) scored a short-handed goal in the third period to help the Colgate University women’s hockey team to a 1-1 tie with Quinnipiac University on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Linemate
Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) stripped the puck from a Bobcat defender in the neutral zone and passed to Brown. Brown carried the puck down the left side and cut across the middle and sent a low shot at Jamie Miller and the puck went between her legs to light the lamp at 12:06.
Quinnipiac was able to get on the scoreboard just over eight minutes into the game, as they had a slight edge in shots in the opening frame, 8-7. Elyse Cole picked up a blocked shot and dropped the puck off for Brandice Moniz who brought it into the Colgate zone and fed Erika Bolognino who lifted the puck over the blocker of junior
Elayna Hamashuk (Nepean, Ont.).
Colgate came out ready to tie up the game in the second session, putting 16 shots together compared to Quinnipiac’s three, but the Raiders couldn’t sneak the puck past Miller in net. Miller came up with two big stops early in the second, making a pad save followed by a glove grab after Colgate came up with the rebound. With just over four minutes to play in the period, sophomore
Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a shot from the left side slide behind Miller and hit the post. Classmate
Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) was right on the doorstep and wrapped the puck towards the goal but Miller extended her leg for the save and Rotenberg tried to sneak it by again but to no avail.
The Raiders had nine shots to the Bobcats six in the final frame, and had three shots in the overtime session to just one chance for Quinnipiac.
Freshman
Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.) went one-on-one with Miller after picking up a loose puck with two minutes left in the extra period but Miller made the save on the right post to keep the score even.
Colgate outshot Quinnipiac 35-18 in the contest. Hamashuk made 17 saves in the game, while Miller collected 34. The Raiders were 0-for-9 one the power play and were a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill, including killing off two penalties in the overtime period.
