Princeton Trips Up Colgate, 4-2, in Women's Hockey

Junior defender Kiira Dosdall scored her third tally of the season in a 4-2 loss to Princeton.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/30/07) – The Princeton University women’s hockey team scored two power-play goals in the first two minutes of the third period to break a 1-1 stalemate with Colgate University, and didn’t look back, earning a 4-2 win.

After a scoreless first period that saw just six shots for both benches, Princeton was able to get on the scoreboard just over three minutes into the second session. Annie Greenwood skated the puck into the zone and rifled a shot from the top of the left face-off circle. The shot skimmed off of freshman netminder Lisa Plenderleith’s (Ajax, Ont.) shoulder as she came out of the net and the puck skirted into the back of the net at 3:35.

Colgate’s Nicole McDonald (Calgary, Alta.) was able to even up the scoring at 16:56 of the second with a power-play tally. Junior Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) took a shot from just outside the crease that was saved by Princeton goaltender Kristen Young. Junior Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) collected the rebound in the corner and passed the puck to McDonald who went five-hole for the goal.

Penalty trouble set Colgate back two goals, as the Tigers put two away in the first two minutes of the third period. A Raider was delivered a five-minute checking from behind infraction and a game misconduct, at the same time Colgate was called for a bench minor, with 30 seconds remaining in the middle frame. The penalties forced Colgate to play the opening two minutes with a two-man disadvantage, and Princeton capitalized.

Sasha Sherry ripped a shot from the point that was deflected into the net by Marykate Oakley at 0:39, and Sonja Novak picked up a Katherine Dineen wide shot off the boards and went glove side on her second chance at 1:07.

Dineen added another goal exactly three minutes later when a Novak chance from the left side of the goal deflected off her shoulder and over the goal line.

Junior Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) cut the lead back to 4-2 at 16:29 when she blasted a shot from the point that made its way through traffic and into the twine. Classmate Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.) earned the assist, passing the puck to Dosdall from the right side.

Princeton outshot Colgate, 29-12 in the contest. The Tigers went 2-for-12 on the power play, while the Raiders were 1-for-8.

Plenderleith finished the night with 25 stops, while Young turned away 10 shots.

Colgate (4-8-1, 3-2 ECAC Hockey) hosts Quinnipiac on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. The Bobcats lost a 4-3 game at Cornell earlier this evening.
