HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/3/07) -
The Princeton University men's hockey team completed its weekend sweep of the Central New York travel partners with a 2-0 shutout of Colgate on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Starr Rink. It marked the first time the Tigers swept Colgate and Cornell on the road since the 1994-95 season.

Princeton scored the only two goals it would need in the first period. Jody Pederson found Taylor Fedun skating into the offensive zone on the left side, and Fedun attempted a shot that was blocked by Raider junior defenseman David Sloane (Ambler, Pa.). The rebound went behind the net on the left side, where the puck was picked up by Mark Magnowski. Magnowski wrapped a shot around the right post, but Colgate senior goaltender Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.) was there to stop it. However, Magnowski was persistent, and he poked the puck under Dekanich's pad before he got a firm grip on it, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead 8:48 into the game.

Less than 10 minutes later, Princeton added an insurance goal on the power play. The Tigers set up in the zone, and Brett Wilson passed the puck down to Lee Jubinville behind the net. Jubinville sent a pass in front to Cam MacIntyre, who shot over Dekanich's left shoulder for his fifth goal in three games.

The Raiders were buzzing for a goal midway through the third period, and they almost got it. Freshman Wade Poplawski (Winnipeg, Man.) sent a laser on net from the blue line that clanged off the crossbar and dropped. The goal judge turned on the red light, but referee Chip McDonald waved off the judge's decision, and the teams continued to play.

Princeton sophomore netminder Zane Kalemba earned his first career shutout after making 25 saves, including 12 in the third period. Dekanich finished the game with 19 stops as the Raider defense was effective in keeping the Tigers to the outside, blocking 14 shots on the afternoon.

Colgate outshot Princeton 25-21, and won 36 faceoffs to the Tigers' 28. Princeton finished 1-for-3 on the power play with six shots, while Colgate was 0-3, getting just two shots on net with the man advantage.

The Raiders will try for their first league win of the year next weekend when they visit Brown and Yale. Colgate's game against the Bears will take place on Friday, Nov. 9, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Raiders take on the Bulldogs on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 4:00 p.m., in a game that will be televised live on ESPNU.
