SOUTH BEND, IN (11/26/07) - Kyle McAlarney scored a game-high 25 points, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range, to lead Notre Dame to a 94-63 win over Colgate Monday night at the Joyce Center.
Notre Dame (4-2) wins its second straight game, while Colgate (4-3) drops its third straight.
Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) scored 13 points to lead the Raiders, while
Daniel Waddy (Tucson, AZ) added 10 points. Other Irish players in double figures were Rob Kurz with 20, Tim Andree 14 and Luke Harangody with 11.
Notre Dame did most of its damage from the outside, making 13-of-28 from 3-point range.
In the first half, Notre Dame held an early 4-3 lead before outscoring the Raiders 15-5 for an 11-point advantage, 19-8, with 11:35 remaining. Colgate responded with two baskets by Waddy and
Kendall Chones’ (Cleveland, OH) layup to cut the deficit to 19-14. Later in the opening half, Colgate further reduced the Irish lead to three points, 23-20, with 7:51 left.
McAlarney started to heat up from outside with the first of his four 3-pointers in the first half to propel the Irish back in front, 37-26. Colgate moved to within seven points, 40-33, on
Willie Morse’s (State College, PA) 3-pointer from the corner, but McAlarney made two 3-pointers down the stretch to give ND a 46-33 halftime advantage. McAlarney finished the first half with 16 points.
Colgate matched the Irish in the first half with six 3-pointers led by Roemer with three, who finished with 10 points in the first 20 minutes. Colgate shot 46 percent from the field (12-of-26), but committed 11 turnovers before intermission.
After
Kendall Chones hit a jumper to start the second half, back-to-back 3-pointers by McAlarney and Ryan Ayers opened a 17-point lead, 52-35, with 17:59 left.
Waddy’s 3-pointer and
Kendall Chones’ jump-hook cut the deficit to 54-40, but Ayers hit on a dunk and McAlarney another 3-pointer to go ahead by 19 points, 59-40. After the Irish went ahead by 20 points, Colgate got two free throws by
Ben Jonson (Dallas, TX) and one from Roemer to trail by 17 with 11:54 remaining. That would be as close as Colgate would come as Notre Dame scored the next 12 points.
Kyle Chones (Cleveland, OH) finished with eight points and three rebounds, while
Kendall Chones had eight points and freshmen
Alex English (Phoenix, AZ) came off the bench with five points and three rebounds.
Colgate will continue its six-game road trip on Saturday at Cornell.
