Junior
Peter Bogdanich (Burnaby, B.C.) was the only Raider to score more than once, and he finished with a career-high two goals and a career-high three points. Senior captain
Jesse Winchester (Long Sault, Ont.) contributed three assists, and sophomore
David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) had a goal and two assists.
Colgate opened the scoring at 7:30 with the first of back-to-back power-play goals against the Huskies' potent penalty kill, which ranked sixth in the nation heading into the weekend. Junior
Jason Fredricks (Eagle River, Wis.) passed the puck to Bogdanich along the right side boards. Bogdanich threaded a pass to sophomore
Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) in the slot, and he slammed it home.
Ten minutes later, freshman
Kevin McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) drove into the right corner and went to center the puck. It was deflected, but Winchester picked up and put a shot on net. Senior
Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.) was standing to the right of the net on the goal line, and when the puck came his way, he flicked it in for his sixth score of the year.
Colgate netted four goals in the second period, starting 93 seconds after returning to the ice. Winchester gained the zone and created space where he dropped the puck to Burton on the sideboards. Burton held on until Bogdanich gained the high slot, then passed it to him, and Bogdanich sent a hard wrist shot low into the net.
Less than 90 seconds later, the Raiders made it 4-0. Junior
Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.) dumped the puck into the corner from the blue line, where freshman
Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) picked it up and pushed it acrosse the crease to McIntyre. McIntyre deked UConn sophomore goaltender Beau Erickson and beat him far-side. The goal chased Erickson from the Husky net, and he was replaced by freshman Brad McInnis.
Midway through the second period, Connecticut got on the board with its third power-play opportunity of the night. Andrew Olson sent a head-man pass to Ryan Hawkins, who took it through the neutral zone on the left side. He found Sean Erickson going to goal, and Erickson put it in, glove-side.
On UConn's next power-play opportunity, it was the Raiders' turn to get a goal. After making a save, Colgate senior goaltender
Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.) batted the puck ahead to Winchester. Winchester beat the Husky defenders into the offensive zone along the right wing, then crossed the puck to sophomore
Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.) sprinting down the middle. Cox roofed the puck for the first shorthanded goal of his career.
Bogdanich potted his second goal of the period with 4:26 left in the middle frame. Williams broke McIntyre into the offensive zone, where he deked a UConn defender and found Bogdanich in the slot. Bogdanich shot into the top corner on the far side to put Colgate up 6-1.
The Raiders capped the game's scoring 9:07 into the third period. McIntyre took the puck where Day picked up the loose puck and shot, but the rebound came to junior
Tom Riley (Ottawa, Ont.), who swept it in for his third goal of the year.
Dekanich made 26 saves as his Raiders put a season-high 45 shots on the Husky net. Erickson finished his appearance with 17 saves, and McInnis earned 21 stops over the final 36:58 of the game. The Raiders finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while UConn was 1-for-6. Colgate dominated on faceoffs, 40-25, led by Burton, who won 14 of his 20 draws for a 70.0 percent success rate.
