WORCESTER, MA (11/17/07) – Colgate junior tailback
Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) carried for 206 yards and three touchdowns but that wasn’t effort as Holy Cross rallied for a 27-20 win over the Raiders in the season finale for both teams at Fitton Field.
Colgate finishes its season with an overall mark of 7-4 and Patriot League record of 4-2, while the Crusaders had an identical record. The Crusaders snapped a six-game losing streak against Colgate.
Scott finished the season with 1,873 yards which is the third best season in school history, and increased his career rushing total to 4,473 yards. It was the sixth 200-yard performance of his career tying the school record.
Colgate scored on its first two possessions of the game to take a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. On its opening drive, the Raiders marched 87 yards on 10 plays for the touchdown. Scott scored on a four-yard run, and
Mike Buck (Basking Ridge, NJ) added the extra point.
After Holy Cross missed on a 23-yard field goal attempt, Colgate drove 80 yards in 11 plays for a 14-0 lead. Scott scored on a one-yard run to cap the drive.
The Crusaders scored their first points with 8:15 remaining in the first half, when Terrance Gass caught a 35-yard screen pass for a touchdown. Holy Cross added a 41-yard field goal by Matt Partian later to cut the halftime deficit to 14-10.
In the third quarter, Colgate took the kickoff and marched 73-yard in 11 plays for a 20-10 lead. Scott scored his third TD of the contest on a nine-yard run, but the extra point was missed wide left.
Partain kicked his second field goal with 6:58 left in the third quarter to bring the Crusaders to 20-13.
Colgate appeared ready to put the Crusaders away but quarterback
Alex Relph (Victor, NY) was intercepted in the end zone on the first play of the fourth quarter. Holy Cross struck currently for the tying touchdown going 80 yards in four plays with Dominic Randolph throwing a 26-yard pass to Brett McDermott for the score.
The Crusaders’ game-winning TD came with 7:28 left in the contest when Justin Maher caught a three-yard TD pass from Randolph. Colgate had two more possession, but both ended in interceptions.
GAME NOTES: Erik Burke (Traverse City, MI) had six catches for 72 yards. He finished his standout career with 118 catches (eighth all-time) for 1,874 yards (sixth all-time) and nine touchdowns … Relph finished 17-of-24 for 224 yards and three interceptions … Colgate had 454 yards of total offense, while Holy Cross managed 495 …
