Raiders Fall 3-0 to Princeton

Princeton ends Colgate's three-game win streak with 3-0 decision.

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/17/07) – The Colgate University women’s hockey team lost its first ECAC Hockey game of the season, falling 3-0 to Princeton University on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Baker Rink. The Tigers, ranked No. 10 in the USCHO national poll, scored a goal in each period.

Coming off of a 7-4 loss to Cornell, Princeton hit the ice hard, outshooting Colgate 14-6 in the first period. Annie Greenwood was able to capitalize on Colgate’s second penalty of the game. Katherine Dineen had the puck at the point and rifled it in on net. It was stopped by freshman goaltender Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.), but Greenwood was able to get the rebound and put it into the back of the net at 13:09.

The Raiders came out in the second period determined to tie up the game. Colgate took 13 shots in the period but couldn’t sneak anything by Princeton’s Kristen Young between the pipes.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead at 11:18 when sophomore Julie Flynn knocked in a rebound. Freshman Sasha Sherry earned her second assist of the game when she released a shot from the point that was redirected by classmate Caroline Park. Plenderleith made the initial save, but Flynn crashed the net and poked the puck over the goal line.

Princeton sealed the win with a short-handed tally midway through the third frame. Senior Marykate Oakley intercepted the puck in the Tigers’ zone and sent it down the ice to Brittany Salmon, who skated in with a breakaway goal at 10:10.

Princeton had a slight edge in shots, 31-27. Plenderleith made 28 saves in the game, while Young turned away 27.

The Raiders went 0-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.

Princeton improves to 4-4-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the league, while Colgate falls to 3-6-1 and 3-1 in the league.

Colgate hosts non-conference opponent Wayne State on Nov. 23-24. The teams will battle it out at 3 p.m., on both Friday and Saturday.
