Women's Hockey Cruises to a 5-2 Win Over Quinnipiac

Sophomore Beth Rotenberg scored her first goal of the season and chipped in an assist as Colgate won a 5-2 game over Quinnipiac.
 
HAMDEN, Conn. (11/16/07) – The Colgate University women’s hockey team cruised to a 5-2 victory over Quinnipiac University on Friday, Nov. 16 at TD Banknorth Center. The win keeps the Raiders unbeaten at 3-0 in ECAC Hockey play.
 
Four Raiders had multiple-point efforts, including juniors Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.), Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.), Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.).
 
The Bobcats surprised Colgate by getting on the scoreboard just 1:57 into the contest. Breanna Burton had the puck in the right face-off circle and sent a cross-ice pass to Trudy Reyns. Reyns fired a shot t the lower left corner.
 
Brown counted for the Raiders with a power-play goal at the 11 minute mark with help from Dosdall and sophomore Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.). Dombovy connected with Dosdall on the right side of the goal and Dosdall dropped the puck to Brown who sent it into the back of the net.
 
Colgate took a 3-1 lead with two goals in the first half of the second period. Hunt scored the Raiders’ only even-strength goal of the game four minutes in with help from Brown and freshman Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.). Sophomore Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) scored what would be the eventual game-winner on the man-advantage with help from Dosdall at 8:46.
 
Quinnipiac cut the lead back to one with an unassisted tally from Antoinette Maldonado at 13:21.
 
Colgate extended its lead to 4-2 with a power-play marker from Rotenberg at 17:15, her first goal of the season. The lone goal of the third period came at 8:07. Rotenberg blasted a shot from the right face-off circle that hit the pipe and skidded across the ice where Hunt handled it and shoveled it over the goal line.
 
Junior Elayna Hamashuk (Nepean, Ont.) earned her first win of the season, making 15 saves. Tia Wishart stopped 22 for Quinnipiac.
 
The Raiders outshot the Bobcats 27-17 in the contest, including a 24-13 differential in the first two periods. 
 
Colgate went 4-for-14 on the power play and was a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
 
Colgate (3-5-1) travels to Princeton for a 4 p.m., game tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 17.
