HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/6/07) – Junior tailback
Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) carried 45 times for 270 yards and three touchdowns to lead Colgate (3-2, PL 1-1) to a 28-24 come-from-behind win over Bucknell (2-4. PL 0-1) on Homecoming Weekend at Andy Kerr Stadium.
Colgate was trailing 24-21 with 4:53 remaining in the game, when play was halted for lightning. After a 1:02 delay, Colgate had the ball first-and-10 at its own 20-yard line. The Raiders marched 80 yards in 12 plays, with Scott scoring the game-winning TD with 31 seconds left on a four-yard run. On the final drive, Scott carried seven times for 56 yards and caught two passes for 13.
Scott’s 270 rushing yards was the second highest single game total in school history and the fifth time in his career he has rushed for over 200 yards in a game, tying him for second all-time with Jamaal Branch.
Colgate wide receiver
Erik Burke (Traverse City, Mich.) equaled his career high for receptions in a game with nine for 114 yards, while junior quarterback
Alex Relph (Victor, NY) connected on 18-of-27 passes for a career-high 254 yards and one TD.
The Raiders held a big edge in total offense, out-gaining the Bison 558 to 249. That is the most yardage by a Colgate team since they rolled up 621 against Buffalo in 2003.
Defensively, Colgate received a huge effort from senior defensive tackle
Pat Nolan (Exeter, N.H.), who had seven tackles, 3.5 quarterback sacks, four tackles for losses, two fumbles forced and one fumble recovery.
Colgate opened the scoring in the first quarter when Relph connected on a 62-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver
Pat Simonds (Sidney, NY) on its second possession. Bucknell came right back on the ensuing possession to tie the contest on a five-yard run by A.J. Kizekai.
The Raiders immediately marched 65 yards in five plays to take a 14-7 lead on Scott’s two-yard touchdown run, before the Bison answered again on a 92-yard kickoff return by Kizekai to tie the contest with 6:08 remaining in the first quarter.
Colgate would take a 21-14 lead with 4:25 left in the first quarter when Scott capped a 77-yard drive with a seven-yard run.
Bucknell tied the contest with 18 seconds left in the first half, when Kizekai caught a 19-yard TD strike from Marcello Trigg, and then took a 24-21 lead on Will Carney’s 35-yard field goal early in the third quarter.
