HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/27/06) – The Colgate University women’s ice hockey team cruised to a 9-0 win over Union College on Saturday, Jan. 27 to cap off Center Ice Club Weekend with a series sweep.

The Raiders posted back-to-back shutouts over Rensselaer (3-0) and Union, for the second time this season.

The four points moves Colgate into second place in the ECACHL standings, tied with Harvard and behind first-place Dartmouth.  The Raiders are now 13-10-2 overall and 12-3-1 in the league.

Sophomore Elayna Hamashuk (Nepean, Ont.) earned the win tonight, making eight stops in the first two periods.  In the pipes for the third frame was freshman Sara Plunkett (Barrington, R.I.), who made two saves in her first collegiate game.

Union also split goaltending time.  Amanda Hanson made 14 saves and allowed five before being replaced by Danielle Kimble in the second period.  Kimble allowed four goals and stopped 29 shots.

Colgate got things started quickly as sophomore Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) lit the lamp just 53 seconds into the game.  Brown went on to lead the Raiders in scoring with a four-point night adding three helpers in the contest.

The Raiders would add one more goal in the first, collect four in the second and closed out the third with three goals, as they outshot the Dutchwomen, 52-10.

Fifteen of the 18 skaters had at least one point in the game.  Senior Tara French (Truro, N.S.) and freshman Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) each had three points.  Junior Kara Leene (Waterbury, Vt.), sophomore Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.), and freshmen Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Jill Cater-Cyker (Ithaca, N.Y.) each had two assists.

Colgate will head upstate next weekend to take on St. Lawrence and Clarkson.  With just three weekends left, the Raiders will be jockeying for top four in the league to secure home-ice advantage in the playoffs.  The No. 6/7 Saints host the Raiders on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m., before the Raiders take on the Golden Knights on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m.
