HAMILTON
, N.Y. (1/19/07) – Colgate junior goaltender Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.) made 37 saves to preserve a 2-2 tie with Brown on Friday, Jan. 19, at Starr Rink. The Raiders are now 9-12-4 overall this season, and 3-5-3 in ECACHL play, while the Bears are 7-7-4 overall and 3-6-2 in the league.

Colgate got on the board first with a shorthanded goal 12:34 into the game. Sophomore Jason Fredricks (Eagle River, Wis.) picked up the puck behind his own net and passed it to junior Mike Werner (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.) in front. Werner chipped it off the boards to junior Ben Camper (Rocky River, Ohio), who streaked through the neutral zone hugging the right boards. Just over the blueline, Camper wound up for a shot that clanged off the far post and in for his second shorthanded goal of the season.

Brown tied the score late in the second period on one of its nine power-play chances. While attempting to clear the zone, the Raiders turned the puck over to Devin Timberlake. He passed it up to Paul Baier, and he ripped a shot that hit a Colgate player in the slot. Aaron Volpatti recovered the loose puck and beat Dekanich short-side from the hashmarks.

The Raiders managed to regain their lead before the second intermission by capitalizing on a Bear turnover. Junior assistant captain Jesse Winchester (Long Sault, Ont.) stole the puck from a Brown defenseman in the right corner, and threw it toward the net. The puck founds its way between the legs of goaltender Dan Rosen to give Colgate a 2-1 lead with 12 seconds left in the middle session.

Brown got the equalizer 3:46 into the final frame. Sean Hurley received a pass from Antonin Roux at the point, and let loose a shot. Sean Muncy redirected the puck halfway to the goal to fool Dekanich.

Brown outshot Colgate 28-12 through the first two periods, but the Raiders turned the tables with a 15-11 edge in shots during the third period plus overtime. The Bears earned the overall shot advantage, 39-27. Rosen finished the game with 25 saves. Colgate earned the edge on faceoffs, 39-32, and was 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Raiders return to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they host Yale starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are available through the Colgate ticket office by calling (315) 228-7600.
