POTSDAM, N.Y. (2/11/06) - Senior center Kyle Wilson (London, Ont.) scored 8:06 into the third period to give Colgate a 1-1 tie against Clarkson on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Cheel Arena. With Cornell’s tie at St. Lawrence and Dartmouth’s win against Princeton earlier today, the Raiders are tied with the Big Green for second place in the ECACHL standings.
Freshman Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.) stripped the puck from a Golden Knight player in the Raiders’ defensive end and sent a heads-up, cross-ice pass to Wilson who was waiting along the near boards just over the red line. Wilson skated one-on-one into the zone, shook his defender and put the puck top-shelf on Clarkson goalie David Leggio. It was Wilson’s 22nd goal of the season, and the assist was the first point of Anderson’s collegiate career.
Clarkson earned a 1-0 lead at the 11:49 mark of the opening period. David Cayer held the puck in the left corner, and he sent it out to Nick Dodge at the blue line. Dodge found Shawn Weller at the right side of the net, and Weller scored backdoor on Dekanich.
Both Leggio and Dekanich finished with 24 saves, including two each in the overtime period. Colgate edged Clarkson in the faceoff circle, 36-34, led by Wilson who had 16 wins on 24 attempts.
The Raiders play their last two home games of the regular season next weekend when they host Harvard and Dartmouth at Starr Rink. Saturday’s game against the Big Green, who moved into a tie for second place with Colgate with a 2-1 overtime win against Princeton today, will be televised live on Time Warner Sports channel 26 in central and northern New York.
