Senior Marc Fulton scored two goals and an assist in the win against Rensselaer.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (12/2/06) – Colgate senior forward Marc Fulton (Vancouver, B.C.) scored two power-play goals in the second period and assisted on the third to lead the Raiders to a 3-2 win against Rensselaer on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Starr rink. With the win, Colgate improves to 7-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the ECACHL, while the Engineers drop to 4-4-5 overall and 1-1-2 in league play.

Rensselaer opened the scoring with a power-play goal 2:29 into the first period. Seth Klerer passed the puck to Jake Luthi, who let loose a shot. Paul Kerins tipped it into the net past Colgate junior goalie Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.).

The Engineers took a 2-0 lead 2:48 into the second period on a 4-on-3 power play. Luthi set up sophomore Andrei Uryadov, whose shot floated over Dekanich’s glove.

A triple-minor penalty on RPI’s Reed Kipp following an altercation with CU junior Dustin Gillanders (Kyle, Sask.) gave Colgate a two-man advantage starting at the 7:57 mark of the second, when the Engineers sent another player to the box. The Raiders set up on the 5-on-3, and worked the puck down low to junior forward Jesse Winchester (Long Sault, Ont.). Winchester passed it to Fulton near the blue line, and he crossed it to sophomore Jason Fredricks (Eagle River,Wis.). Fredricks passed it back to Winchester on the opposite side, and Winchester scored on a low-angle shot.

Less than a minute later, the Raiders capitalized on Rensselaer’s penalty trouble with another 5-on-3 goal. Sophomore Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.) got the puck, spun around, and backhanded it to Fulton in the high slot. Fulton’s shot hit the crossbar and dropped down into the net.

Fulton netted the game-winning goal 4:45 later on a 5-on-4 power play. Junior Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.) took the puck to the top of the right faceoff circle, and crossed it to Winchester on the left side of the crease. Winchester one-time a pass to Fulton on the opposite side of the goalmouth, and Fulton scored back-door.

Dekanich finished the game with 20 saves, half of which came in the third period. RPI goalie Mathias Lange stopped 31 shots as Colgate outshot the Engineers, 34-22. The Raiders finished 3-for-13 on the power play, while RPI was 2-for-6.

The Raiders travel to St. Cloud, Minn., for a two-game series with St. Cloud State next weekend, Dec. 8-9. Both games begin at 8:05 p.m., Eastern time.
