TEMPE, AZ (12/19/06) – Sophomore forward Jeff Pendergraph scored 10 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead Arizona State (5-4) to a 52-36 win over Colgate Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Colgate (4-5), playing for the first time after a nine-day break for final exams, drops its second straight game, while the Sun Devils snap a two-game losing streak.
Arizona State also received double figure scoring totals from Serge Angounou with 14 points and Christian Polk with 10.
Senior guard
Jon Simon (Phoenix, AZ) was Colgate’s leading scorer with 15 points, while junior guard
Daniel Waddy (Tuscon, AZ) tallied four points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Kyle Chones (Cleveland, OH) added seven points and a pair of rebounds, while
Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH) had six points and two rebounds.
Colgate shot only 31 percent from the field making 13-of-41 field goal attempts, and just 2-of-12 on 3-point attempts. Arizona State managed 42 percent from the field including 8-of-17 from 3-point range.
Arizona State led the entire contest. The Sun Devils held an 11-8 lead with 10:09 remaining in the first half, but quickly took a 12-point lead when Angounou nailed three straight 3-pointers. ASU took a 20-12 lead into halftime.
The Sun Devils came out in the second half and increased their lead to 25 points, 39-14, with 11:53 remaining. Colgate managed only two points in the first 8:32 of the second half. The Raiders cut the deficit to 11 points with 3:55 remaining, but that would be as close as they would come.
The Raiders continue their road trip on the Thursday night, when they meet UC Riverside.
