Lehigh Defeats Colgate 23-15 In Patriot League Football

Jordan Scott moves into ninth place in career rushing.

BETHLEHEM, PA (11/4/06) – Sedale Threatt passed for 185 yards and ran for two touchdowns to lead Lehigh (5-4, PL 4-0) to a 23-15 Patriot League win over Colgate (3-6, PL 2-2) Saturday at Goodman Stadium.

Lehigh took its opening possession 80 yards for a touchdown, capped by Threatt’s two-yard run for the score.  Jason Leo added the extra point.

Late in the second quarter, the Mountain Hawks marched 80 yards again to take a 14-0 lead with 1:19 remaining in the half with Threatt scoring on a two-yard run for the second time.

On the ensuing kickoff, Colgate’s David Morgan (Davie, FL) had a 33-yard return to the Colgate 37-yard line.  Four plays later, sophomore quarterback Alex Relph (Victor, NY) connected on a 36-yard pass play with Kenny Parker (Stratford, NJ) to the three-yard line with eight seconds left.  After one unsuccessful pass attempt into the corner of the end zone, Mike Buck (Basking Ridge, NJ) booted a 20-yard field goal as the gun sounded to end the half.

Lehigh scored on a 40-yard field goal by Leo in the third quarter to go ahead 17-3 before he added a 26-yarder at 12:32 of the fourth quarter for a 17-point lead.

Colgate immediately came back with its first touchdown of the game moving 74 yards on eight plays for the score.  Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, FL), who entered the contest at the start of the second half, hit Parker with a 30-yard touchdown pass with 10:08 left.  The extra point was missed on a bad snap from center.

Trailing 20-9, Colgate appeared to regain the football on a recovery of an on-side kick, but the officials ruled that a fair catch had been signaled for.  Lehigh took over at the Colgate 34-yard line following a 15-yard penalty.  The Raider defense held Lehigh to a 33-yard field goal by Leo with 8:27 left.

The Raiders came right back driving 65 yards in 10 plays to trail 23-15 with 5:55 left on a three-yard touchdown pass from Saraceno to Morgan.  Colgate faced a fourth-and-five at the 23-yard line, but Saraceno connected on a 22-yard with Erik Burke (Traverse City. Mich.) to the Lehigh one-yard line to set up the touchdown.  The extra point was no good when the ball hit the left upright.

Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) carried 21 times for 81 yards to move into ninth place on the school’s all-time rushing list with 2,260 yards – passing Tom Parr (1971-73) on the chart.

Saraceno, playing with a broken rib suffered in the Lafayette game, connected on 11-of-18 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns to move into ninth place all-time in career passing yardage with 3,754 yards.  Colgate’s leading receiver was Burke, who had five catches for 69 yards, while Parker finished with four catches for 91 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Raiders were led by Mike Gallihugh (Midlothian, VA) with 17 tackles, while Geoff Bean (Oneonta, NY) had eight tackles and one quarterback sack.
