Lafayette Defeats Colgate 27-10 To Snap 10-game Losing Streak Against Raiders

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/28/06) – Jonathan Hunt carried 20 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns, and caught a 64-yard touchdown pass to lead Lafayette to a 27-10 Patriot League win over Colgate (3-5, PL 2-1) at Andy Kerr Stadium.
 
Lafayette (3-5, PL 2-1) snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Raiders dating back to the 1995 season.
 
Colgate took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a four-yard run by Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD), capping a 34-yard drive in three plays.  The Raiders had excellent field position after Geoff Bean (Oneonta, NY) had a 21-yard punt return to the Lehigh 34.
 
Scott carried 23 times for 68 yards to move into 10th place on the school’s all-time rushing list with 2,179 yards.
 
Lafayette tied the contest on the second play of the second quarter, when Hurt caught a pass over the middle and rambled 64 yards for a TD.
 
The Leopards scored twice in the third quarter for a 17-7 lead on Rick Ziska’s 43-yard field goal and Hurt’s 80-yard run.  Lafayette added a three-yard touchdown run by Hurt in the fourth quarter, before Colgate’s Mike Buck (Basking Ridge, NJ) booted a 33-yard field goal with 11:47 remaining.
 
Lafayette’s final scored was a 25-yard field goal by Ziska as the Leopards snapped a five-game losing streak.
 
Lafayette had 368 yards of total offense, while Colgate managed 337.  Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, FL) was Colgate’s leading rusher with 14 carries for 71 yards, and he connected on 14-of-27 passes for 195 yards.
 
Junior wide receiver Erik Burke (Traverse City, MI) had five receptions for 62 yards, while David Morgan (Davie, FL) grabbed three passes for 43 yards.
 
On defense, junior linebacker Mike Gallihugh (Midlothian, VA) was the leading tackler with 11.  Nate Johnson (Avenel, NJ) had a quarterback sack.
