HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/28/06) – Senior
Carly McNaughton (Lethbridge, Alta.) earned the first star for the second straight game as she scored two goals en route to Colgate University’s 4-1 league win over Brown University on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Starr Rink.
The game started much like yesterday’s contest as the teams traded goals 23 seconds apart in the first period. The Raiders then added three more goals to seal the victory.
Brown’s Erin Connors collected her first collegiate goal, a power-play goal, at 6:27. Andrea Hunter slid the puck from the point down the ice to Hayley Moore who ripped a shot towards the net. Connors was on the doorstep and snuck the puck glove side on Colgate’s
Brook Wheeler (Brussels, Ont.).
Just 23 seconds later
Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) rifled a shot towards the net that ricocheted off a Brown skate and into the net.
Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) and
Ashley Bradford (Burnaby, B.C.) were credited with the feeds.
McNaughton ignited the offense in the second frame with a marker just 57 seconds in.
Kate Wolgemuth (Anchorage, Alaska) fired a shot from the right side boards which McNaughton redirected at the top of the crease, tipping the puck over the blocker of netminder Nicole Stock.
Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) connected with
Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) along the left wing and Brown sent a shot from the inside the face-off circle that deflected behind the net. McNaughton was in perfect position and she snuck the puck in from behind to give Colgate a two-goal cushion at 15:30.
Ruth Fish (Dewitt, N.Y.) added some insurance with her first goal of the season, with help from Hunt, at 1:40 of the third session.
After calling a time out with 1:32 remaining, Brown pulled goaltender Stock but couldn’t muster a goal while Colgate’s offense helped the keep the puck down low but didn’t have a chance at the empty net.
Wheeler went the distance squashing 24 shots on net, while Stock turned away 28 shots.
Colgate is now 2-4-1 on the season and has a perfect 2-0 league mark. Brown falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the ECACHL.
Colgate hosts No. 3/4 Mercyhurst in a pair of non-conference games on November 3-4.
