Women's Hockey Drops 5-2 Game to Providence

Sophomore Sam Hunt scored her third goal of the season in Colgate's 5-2 loss to Providence.
 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/15/06) -  The Colgate University women’s ice hockey team dropped a 5-2 game to Providence College on Sunday, October 15 at Schneider Arena.
 
Freshman Ali Edell (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) recorded her first collegiate goal as she put the Raiders on the board first with a power-play tally at 18:34 of the first frame, with help from juniors Kara Leene (Waterbury, Vt.) and Mallory Johnston (Chatham, Ont.).
 
Less than one minute later, Kristin Gigliotti tied the game on a power-play goal after picking up a pass from Katy Beach and Mari Pehkonen.
  
Sarah Feldman gave the Friars a lead with five minutes left in the second period with game’s third power-play goal.  Feldman added another goal six minutes into the third period that would prove to be the eventual game-winner.
 
Colgate cut the lead back to 3-2 after Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) poked in an Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) rebound at 8:31.
 
Pehkonen gave the Friars a two-goal cushion at 11:52 before Gigliotti added an empty-net marker with 34 seconds remaining.
 
Brook Wheeler (Brussels, Ont.) made 28 saves for the Raiders, while Danielle Ciarletta made 24 stops for the Friars.
 
Colgate hosts No. 2 University of New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 22 in the Raiders’ home-opener at 2 p.m.
