Connecticut Escapes Colgate in Women's Hockey, 3-1

Carly McNaughton scored the lone goal for the Raiders in a 3-1 loss to Connecticut.
 
STORRS, Conn. (10/14/06) – Nicole Tritter scored two goals to lead Connecticut to a 3-1 win over Colgate University in women’s ice hockey on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Freitas Ice Forum.
 
Colgate (0-2-1) dominated the play in the first period, with a 15-5 advantage in shots but the frame ended scoreless.  The second frame was all Connecticut (3-0), as the Huskies had 11 shots to the Raiders’ six.
 
With less than three minutes remaining to play in the second, Tritter put the Huskies on the board with her first tally of the season, off a feed from Amy Hollstein.
 
Cristin Allen made it 2-0 UConn at 5:24 of the third when she recorded a power-play goal off a pass from Natalie Vibert.
 
Tritter struck again late in the third period as she scored UConn's second power-play goal of the afternoon.  Tritter received the puck from Allen and fired a shot to the back of the net to put the Huskies ahead 3-0.
 
Colgate's Carly McNaughton (Lethbridge, Alta.) spoiled UConn's shutout bid as she wristed home a shot with just over one minute remaining in the game.  She was assisted by defenders Mallory Johnston (Chatham, Ont.) and Kate Wolgemuth (Anchorage, Alaska.).
 
Elayna Hamashuk (Nepean, Ont.) made 26 saves for Colgate in her first start of the season, while Brittany Wilson stopped 35 for Connecticut.
 
Colgate will take on Providence on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m., at Schneider Arena.  Live stats will be available for the game at www.goColgateRaiders.com
