HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/14/06) - The Colgate University women’s ice hockey team ended a five-game winless skid with a 4-0 shutout over Quinnipiac on Saturday, January 14 at Starr Rink.

The Raiders lit the scoreboard for the first time at 5:48 of the first period. Junior Carly McNaughton (Lethbridge, Alta.) skated into the Colgate offensive zone on the left side boards and sent a diagonal pass up to Ashley Bradford (Burnaby, B.C.). Bradford smoothly moved the puck back over the left side to Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) who was just outside the crease and Brown was able to sneak the puck past Connie Craig in net.

Freshman Lisa Dodd (Syracuse, N.Y.) collected her first collegiate point when she picked up a Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) pass and took the initial shot at Craig from the left side. Dodd’s shot was turned away but rebounded out where Becky Irvine (Lakeview, N.S.) was able to put some wood on it and shot past her defender while Craig was down, having not recovered from the initial shot at 19:17 of the first.

Hunt made it 3-0 late in the second period with an unassisted short-handed tally. Hunt battled along the boards with a Quinnipiac defender but was able to poke the puck free. She skated up on the net and wristed a high shot that went top shelf over the glove of Craig at 19:02 of the second stanza.  It was Colgate's first short-handed goal of the season.

Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.) added her name to the scoresheet when she took a shot from the inside the left face-off circle. The shot rebounded back out onto the ice to Bradford, who sent the puck past the blocker at 6:10 of the third period.

Elayna Hamashuk (Nepean, Ont.) made 20 saves in her third straight start for the Raiders. This was her first collegiate shutout and first ECACHL victory. Craig turned away 24 for the Bobcats, who finish the weekend 1-1.

The Raiders are now 8-8-4 and 5-2-2 in the league, while the Bobcats fall to 7-12-4 and 3-8-2 in the conference.

Colgate will begin a six-game road swing next weekend when they travel to the North Country. The Raiders will take on No. 8/9 Clarkson on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m., and go cross town to No. 3/4 St. Lawrence on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a 4 p.m., contest.
